USA Boxing “Six Minutes of Glory”
Boxing Invades the U.S. Cellular Coliseum
Bloomington, Ill. (May 20, 2010) – For the first time ever in the history of the building, the U.S. Cellular Coliseum and James Thorpe, Inc. presents: USA Boxing “Six Minutes of Glory” on Saturday, September, 18th at 7:00pm.
Sanctioned by USA Boxing of Illinois, Bloomington fans will get a chance to see sixteen (16) amateur boxing matches where boxers will show the crowd the sweet science and the art of boxing. Legendary Coach and Trainer Jimmy Howell will bring his team from St. Louis to do battle with some of the top amateur fighters from all across Illinois. Preliminary matches will pit local Boxing Clubs from Peoria, Decatur, Moline, Sterling, Chicago and La Salle. Each match will consist of three (3), two minute rounds.
“This is a chance of a lifetime to possibly witness future Olympians and maybe a future World Champion right here in Bloomington, IL,” said Jim Thorpe- President of Jim Thorpe, Inc. “It takes a special athlete to make that long walk to the square circle and do battle in front of a crowd of fans. These fighters are some of the best trained and disciplined athletes in the world. We are excited to be able to partner with the U.S Cellular Coliseum and bring back boxing to Bloomington.”
For the U.S. Cellular Coliseum it marks another new specialty sports event that has never been done before in the facility. “We are excited to be able to bring this type of event to the U.S Cellular Coliseum.” said Bart Rogers –Vice President/General Manager. “With our past success with other specialty sporting events and the demand that we’ve heard to bring this type of show to the U.S. Cellular Coliseum, we can’t wait for the first bell to ding! With our state of the art facility, we look forward to making this event for Jim Thorpe, Inc. one of the best boxing events in the entire Midwest!”
Tickets for the USA Boxing “Six Minutes of Glory” go on-sale Friday May 21, 2010 at 10:00am. Ticket prices are $50.00 (Ring Side) and $25 (VIP Floor) and $15 for all other seating areas. Additional fees may apply.
